AI resume screening that shows the line behind every score
HireQwik scores every resume against your job description and shows the sentence from the resume behind each requirement, so recruiters can check a score instead of trusting it.
What is AI resume screening software?
AI resume screening software reads each application against the requirements in a job description and ranks candidates by how well their experience fits. HireQwik gives every requirement a met, partial or missing verdict, quotes the resume line behind it, and leaves the hiring decision with your recruiters.
That is different from the keyword filter inside most applicant tracking systems, which checks whether a word appears and cannot tell five years of relevant work from one mention in a skills list. It is why scores from keyword tools bunch together in the middle, and why a filter can pass a resume that repeats the right words while missing a candidate who describes the same work differently.
How HireQwik scores a resume
Your team sets the bar once per role. After that, every resume that comes in is read the same way.
Upload the job description
HireQwik drafts the scoring rubric, with what full, partial and no fit look like for each requirement.
Review the rubric and rules
Edit the requirements, the experience band and the must-haves before a single resume is scored.
Bring the resumes in
From a Google Sheet, a referral form, an Excel file, a Drive folder, or PDF and DOCX files.
Every resume is scored
Each requirement gets a verdict and the line from the resume that supports it.
Recruiters work the ranked list
Approve, reject or invite to an AI interview, starting from the strongest fit.
The evidence view: why a resume got its score
Open any candidate and the score breaks down into the requirements it came from. Each one shows a verdict and the words from the resume that earned it, and a missing requirement says so plainly instead of hiding inside an average.
Must-have rules your team can read
A must-have is written as a plain sentence, such as "at least two years of customer-facing work", and HireQwik turns it into a check against each resume. Your team sees which rules are active, and nothing filters candidates until you have reviewed it.

AI resume screening vs keyword filters and manual review
Three ways teams get from a pile of applications to a shortlist, and what each one can and cannot do.
| Question | Manual review | ATS keyword filter | HireQwik |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reads every resume | Only as many as time allows | Yes | Yes |
| Judges fit, not words | Yes, when the reader has time | No, it matches terms | Yes, requirement by requirement |
| Shows why | Rarely written down | A match count | The resume line behind each verdict |
| Consistent between reviewers | Two readers often disagree | Yes | Yes, one rubric per role |
| Keeps up with a hiring surge | No | Yes | Yes |
| Who decides | The recruiter | The filter, silently | The recruiter, with the evidence |

From resume screen to AI interview
A strong resume is a reason to talk to someone, not a reason to hire them. Candidates who clear the resume screen can get a booking link straight away, or after a recruiter approves them, and take a 10 to 20 minute voice interview with HireQwik's AI interviewer. The resume score, the interview recording, the transcript and the evaluation then sit in one profile, so the recruiter judges both together.
AI resume screening and bias: what we check, who decides
An automated screen can repeat a bias at a scale no single recruiter could, so the safeguards matter more than the model. HireQwik is built around three of them:
- Scores tie to stated requirements. Every verdict points to a requirement from your job description and a line from the resume, so a biased criterion is visible and can be removed.
- A recruiter decides. The AI ranks and recommends. Auto-reject is a per-role setting that stays off unless your team turns it on.
- The record is kept. Each score, its evidence and the final decision stay with the candidate, which is what a later review or a candidate's question needs.
What we do not claim: HireQwik has not completed an independent bias audit, and using it does not make you compliant with any law. New York City, Illinois, California and other places now set rules for automated hiring tools, and our guide to AI hiring laws by state lists what each one requires. Run an adverse-impact check on your own applicant data before launch, and talk to us before using HireQwik for roles in New York City.
When AI resume screening is not worth it
It pays off when many people apply for the same role. It helps less in these cases:
- A handful of applicants. If a recruiter can read every resume in ten minutes, setting up a rubric is not worth it.
- Roles decided by a portfolio or a work sample, such as design or writing, where the resume says little about the work.
- Senior and executive search, where candidates come through referrals and a first conversation, not a resume pile.

Built for the size of a real hiring surge
Most of what arrives in a high-volume role does not fit it. In our own data, about half of all scored resumes matched less than 30 percent of what the role asked for. The work is finding the few that fit, quickly, without losing a good candidate who wrote their resume differently.
Questions buyers ask about AI resume screening
How accurate is AI resume screening?
It depends on how clearly the job description states what the role needs, which is why HireQwik shows its working. Every requirement gets a met, partial or missing verdict with the resume line behind it, so a recruiter can check any score in seconds. The fair test is to run it on candidates your team has already screened by hand and compare the two shortlists.
Can candidates game AI resume screening with keywords?
Repeating keywords does not help. HireQwik scores each requirement on the evidence in the resume, so relevant experience counts and unrelated experience does not, however often a keyword appears. A resume that claims more than the candidate can explain tends to come apart at the next step, when the AI interview asks about the work itself.
What resume formats can HireQwik read?
PDF and DOCX resumes, dragged in as a batch or linked from a Google Sheet, a referral form, an Excel file or a Drive folder. If a file cannot be read, the candidate is shown as not scored instead of being silently dropped, so a recruiter can open it and decide.
Does AI resume screening reject candidates automatically?
Only if your team turns it on. By default the AI ranks and recommends, and recruiters decide. For each role you can choose to auto-reject resumes below a score and auto-invite those above another, which leaves recruiters reviewing the middle band. Both settings are off until someone switches them on for that role.
How fast is AI resume screening at high volume?
In a live drive with 3,000 applicants, recruiters spent 1 to 2 hours reviewing the ranked list instead of about 18 hours reading profiles, and the whole screening phase took 1 to 2 working days instead of 6 to 10. The time saved is the reading, because every resume arrives already scored with its evidence.
Is AI resume screening legal in the US?
Yes, with conditions in some places. New York City requires an independent bias audit and candidate notice before an automated tool screens candidates for jobs there, Illinois requires notice when AI is used in hiring decisions, and California requires four years of records for automated decisions. HireQwik has not completed an independent bias audit, so check the rules where you hire with your counsel.
